Retail Planner

What you can expect:

Position Summary:

The planner is responsible for the development and execution of merchandise financial plans for assigned areas of responsibility, in collaboration with cross functional partners to support total company objectives, maximize sales and gross margin opportunities, and mitigate risks to the business using analysis of current trend and historical data. Responsibilities include creation of pre-season sales budget and buy plans and management of in-season performance and open-to-buy projections. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and time management skills, and employ a proactive approach in identifying solutions to drive their business.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to-


  • Develop financial merchandise plans for sales, gross margin and inventory turn in support of total company merchandising, marketing and financial goals
  • Create seasonal buy plans by brand/product/store group, using analysis of historical performance as well as current trend to determine future product assortment opportunities and inventory strategies
  • Communicate weekly financial results and action plans to management; present financial forecast and supporting strategies to hit company targets in monthly open to buy meetings, indicating any risk or opportunities to forecast based on current sales trends and key performance indicators
  • Partner with cross functional teams (merchandising, allocation) to product selling life and in-season inventory levels (store allocations, transfers, markdowns)
  • Take on ad hoc projects as needed


System Technology


  • SAP Retail and AFS: Used for inventory tracking inbound to country and distribution center to stores
  • SAP BIS Merchant Reporting Tool: Used for forecasting Sales, Inventory, Receipts, & Gross Margin
  • Manage standard reporting while maximizing the effectiveness of SAP Retail / BIS by sharing knowledge of new tools/processes available through the system. 

Your profile:



  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 3+ years of related experience – possess a clear understanding of financial measurements: sales, gross margin, sell thru, inventory turn, etc. and how to impact them
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with strong math and formula writing skills (pivot tables, vlookups, indexmatch, etc)
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Professional and Positive “can do” attitude
